Video Testing Policy

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

R Video camera must continue taping through entire test (no interruptions) .

R If a mistake is made, explain the error and continue testing.

R Running time should be at least 45 minutes and no longer than 90 minutes.

R Testing fee is determined by your membership type.

R Prior to test, submit completed Testing Application, Membership Registration, and Instructor Rating Worksheet & any other documentation required by the Testing Board.

 

TESTING CRITERIA FOR COLOR BELT RANKS

Contact BBFI for specific requirements of your desired rank.  Full members testing for color belt ranks are subject to a $29.95 video testing fee.

 

TESTING CRITERIA FOR BLACK BELT RANKS

Video Testing Fees for degree ranking are as follows:  Full = $124.95; Charter = $114.95; Executive = $99.95 (fee is waived with a minimum of 25 active students).

 

Formal Exercises:

Physically perform all typically required forms required in your system up to and including your desired rank.

Should your system not have any formal exercises, substitute this requirement by demonstrating an additional 40 self-defenses for each degree of your desired rank.  (i.e. a 2nd Dan testing without any requirement of forms will require a minimum of 80 self-defense combinations in addition to the 40 listed below under the “self-defense” heading).

  

Technical Combinations: (Key test area)

Perform combinations of at least 3 techniques, in a series of at least 5 repetitions.  Techniques are grouped into 5 categories (listed below).  Techniques are to be performed while advancing and/or retreating across the floor (not in stationary position).

1. Hand techniques only (i.e., punching, striking, blocking; no kicking)

2. Ground kicks only (exclude hand techniques and aerial kicking)

3. Hand and ground kick combination (exclude aerial kicking)

4. Aerial kicks only (no more than two steps permitted between kicks)

5. Combination of items 1 though 4 (demonstrate creativity and familiarity with each group of techniques in this series)

  

Self-defense:

Perform between 20 - 25 different defensive combinations for each degree of the desired rank.  (i.e. 2nd Dan test must perform at least 40 defensive combinations).

  

Fighting: (45-second rest between rounds)

The student who is testing is required to fight one opponent for a total of three 2-minute rounds. After a 2-minute rest, testing student will fight two people simultaneously for a total of three rounds (90-second rounds).  After a 2-minute rest, testing student will fight three people simultaneously for a total of three 60-second rounds.

  

Take-downs and Submission Holds (in addition to self-defense)

If taught in your system, demonstrate 10 per degree of desired rank

(i.e., grappling techniques, hip throws, joint-manipulation, arm-bars.)

  

Breaking (minimum of five stations 3/4” pineboard, 12”x12”

If one holder is at a station, two boards are required at this station.

If two or more holders are at a station, three boards are required.

If supported by masonry blocks, five boards are required. 

One station must be at least five bricks.

Note:  Breaking requirements may be modified or waived if medical condition merits (subject to documented evidence of condition).
