This was the second class offered to the women of Visteon. The first workshop had such a great response (over 40 participants), that a second class was scheduled for those that could not attend the first session. BBFI is thrilled to provide this Press Release as this event provides a benefit to so many people. Women who attend the training will learn how to better defend themselves, First Step will receive funds to help battered women, and the instructors gain the satisfaction of sharing their techniques with a captive audience. Keep up the good work, Mr. Wilcox! The following text is quoted from Visteon's
(released November 8, 2004) It is not often that Women in Visteon appears in the same sentence as “choker hold” and “knife defense.” But on Oct. 19, the first Women in Visteon Self-Defense Workshop introduced approximately 40 employees, both men and women, to martial arts self-defense concepts and moves. Participants learned a variety of gun, knife and grab-defense techniques, like pressure-point release and joint locks. The training, held in Canton, Mich. (U.S.), had participants practicing attack and defense moves on each other. The evening ended with 30 of the participants being able to blast their palm through a one-inch-thick board of wood. “The two hours flew by, and I was still ready for more,” said one participant on a feedback form. “I never thought I was capable of breaking a one-inch board with my hand,” commented another. “It was truly exhilarating.” Because of the overwhelming response, plans for a second workshop to be held at the beginning of December are under way. “The workshop was an action-packed event that gave participants a chance to gain useful knowledge and interact with co-workers in a fun, informal setting,” said Tracey Katcherian, non-production commodity buyer. “Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves.” The training was led by Robert Wilcox, ASDE and third-degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, and his team of black belts from Warriors of Faith Martial Arts Academy. They were assisted by Michael J. Sweeney, change control technical specialist and second-degree black belt in Choi Kwon Do/Tae Kwon Do. The event was organized by Katcherian, Suzanne Bertolino, program supply, and Rupal Shroff, business planner. Contributions from the participants raised $150 for First Step, a refuge for victims of domestic violence. Copyright © 2004 Visteon Corporation. All Rights Reserved. For More Information Contact: |
